Laurie Lynn Stark
Laurie Lynn Stark – a compelling fine art photographer – is a force across art, advertising, film & modern multi-media platforms.
A California native, she spent many years as an independent Art Director. Intrigued by the instant creative expression that photography would allow her, Laurie Lynn quickly found herself behind the lens. Immediately, she began shooting her friends & family in intensely intimate, and often spontaneous, portraits with an honest yet graceful eye – a trait that would come to define her signature artistic mark. Shooting mostly with an 8x10 Polaroid camera, her emotional and unguarded work with subjects like Farah Fawcett, Melanie Griffith, Marina Ambramovic and Cher was soon sought after by publishers and collectors.
In 2009, Laurie Lynn was an invited artist in the Women in the Magic Mirror Exhibition in Monte Carlo, an epic collection representing the journey of the “classic beauty” from last century’s society through to today – a curation that set her pieces next to rare work from great Masters of photography and was visited by The Honorable Prince Albert II of Monaco. The success of this exhibition birthed SYMBOLISM, a remarkable twenty-six-piece show that opened in 2010 at the St. Moritz Art Masters. Within the same year, she was honored with an award from Kodansha, the largest Japanese publishing house, for her work on an advertising campaign shot for Chrome Hearts.
In 2013, her next exhibition, 28 Images, debuted for the first time ever in Seoul, South Korea at Shinsegae Gallery. Alongside this exhibit, noted for its purity in vision, came her first published book – a limited edition collectible with a foreword offered by longtime friend, Cher.
While faithful to the increasingly rare 8x10 Polaroid format, Laurie Lynn began exploring the passage into video and digital photography. The opportunity to command both moving and still imagery has lured a deeper and more elemental means of capturing her subjects – a talent that has compelled notoriously camera-shy personalities to sit for her.
In addition to being featured in international publications and art books, she has been the Creative Director behind the Japanese-published magazine for Chrome Hearts. Her work appears on the international pages of GQ & Vogue and in the library of many private & public collections worldwide.
Having made her mark in both commercial and fine arts, Laurie Lynn’s passion is most recently driven by her work with young artists and charitable organizations. At her Hollywood studio, she inspirits an environment that affords young artists unique opportunities and a space to hone their craft. She is committed to giving her energy and talent to causes close to her heart, particularly eco-minded and conservation-driven organizations to whom she also donates her works to support their initiatives.
Laurie Lynn Stark co-owns Chrome Hearts with Richard Stark and her three children and lives in New York & Europe. She is also a Board Member of the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami.
